Obituary

Gail Wickes Rock

Gail Wickes Rock passed away peacefully on November 14, 2021 at the age of 87.

Born in New York City on December 6, 1933, she was the daughter of Albert and Ruth Rohde. Gail spent most of her life in the Hudson Valley and was a graduate in the Arlington High School class of 1952. She retired to Calabash, NC in 1992 and spent the last three years at Magnolia Glen Senior Living Community in Raleigh, NC.

Gail was pre-deceased by husbands Charles Wickes and Donald Rock. As a single parent between marriages, she skillfully managed to mix just the right amount of love, faith, courage, discipline, and humor to raise her young sons. Gail is survived by Barry (Margot) Wickes, Knoxville, TN, Dana (Sandra) Wickes, Raleigh, NC, Todd (Kimberly) Wickes, Poughquag, NY, and Stephen (Deb) Rock, Gansevoort, NY.

Gail's happiest days were spent with her loving grandchildren: Evan (Cathy) Wickes, Ryan (partner Geneva Addison) Wickes, Eric (Ada) Wickes, Rachel (partner Robert Johnston) Wickes, Kathleen Rock, Megan Rock, Camryn Wickes, Natalie Rock and great grandchild Ariela Avxhi.

Gail is also survived by her sister Phyllis Housour of Elkhart, IN. and many loving and supportive nieces, nephews and friends. She was pre-deceased by her identical twin sister Joy Ellis, with whom she was famously known as the generous and fun loving "Rohde Twins".

Gail will be remembered as sweet, loving, kind, and compassionate. She was a pillar of strength and loyal caregiver to her two husbands. Her motto was "Family First" and one of her proudest accomplishments was taking her extended family on a cruise to the Bahamas in 2013. She always welcomed a spirited game of bowling, cards, or cornhole and she also enjoyed a well-pitched baseball game. In addition, she was a member of the Arlington Reformed Church, and more recently, the Calabash Presbyterian Church.

Services were held for Gail in Raleigh, NC on 11/23/21. In addition, visitation will be held at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction, NY on Friday, 12/3/21 from 6:00-8:00pm. A service will be held Saturday 12/4/21 at 11:00am with burial at the Freedom Plains Cemetery immediately following. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to be made to the American Diabetes Association.
