Galip Mustafa Edip
May 10, 1934 - June 1, 2026
It is with the deepest love and profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Galip Mustafa Edip on June 1, 2026, at the age of 92. Surrounded by his devoted family in the comfort of his own bed at home in Stormville, New York-exactly as he had always wished-Galip left this world gently, wrapped in the love he had given so freely throughout his long and beautiful life.
A computer programmer by trade and a Stormville resident for more than 60 years, Galip was far more than his profession. He was the heart of his family: a kind, selfless, and endlessly generous husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose quiet strength and warm spirit touched everyone he met.
Born on May 10, 1934, in Nicosia, Cyprus, to Gülsüm and Mustafa Edib, Galip moved with his parents and brothers, Aziz and Hilmi, to Bronx, New York at age eighteen (18). He attended college at Ohio Northern University and at Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute, then proudly served in the U.S. Army, and built a career as a computer programmer at Vassar College and Frank B. Hall. After his retirement, Galip started a second career by helping his daughters run their businesses. Derin with her law firm and Esen at her title company where he was known as "Baba" to everyone. Yet it was never the titles or the work that defined him-it was the way he loved.
On August 14, 1968, in London, England, Galip married Semran, after a whirlwind romance. Together they settled in Stormville, NY where they raised their three daughters-Derin, Esen, and Seda-in a traditional Turkish home filled with warmth, family, food, and unconditional love. For fifty-eight years, Galip and Semran were devoted to taking care of their family and each other.
To his daughters and sons-in-law-Derin Edip Walden and Glen Walden, Esen Edip, and Seda Steck and Kenneth Steck-Galip was the most loving and selfless father. He taught them not through words alone, but through the quiet example of his life: how to work hard, be honest, give without expectations and face every challenge with grace and humility.
To his beloved grandchildren-Spencer and Hudson Walden, Kenneth and Kayne Steck, and Kaira Edip-Galip was their loving Dede. They enjoyed sharing so many special memories, holidays, and celebrations together.
Galip shared his love of gardening and took pure joy in harvesting to share with family, friends, and neighbors. Those baskets of fresh produce were more than food; they were gifts straight from his generous heart, a simple, beautiful way of saying, "I care about you."
Galip's kindness knew no bounds. He lived to lift others up-offering help before it was asked for, listening with patience, and giving of himself without hesitation. Whether it was a quiet word of encouragement, a shared meal from his garden, or simply his steady, reassuring presence, he made the world warmer for everyone fortunate enough to know him. He was, in every sense, a man who loved deeply and lived selflessly.
