Obituary

Gary T. Ferrone, a lifelong resident of Dutchess County, passed away at home surrounded by family in Poughkeepsie, NY on Tuesday, March 11, 2025. He was 76.

Son of the late Joseph N. and Dorothy E. (Galbraith) Ferrone, he was born in Beacon, NY on November 15, 1948. He lived a faithful life, attending St. John's Elementary School (Beacon) and graduated from Our Lady of Lourdes High School (Poughkeepsie) in 1966. In his adult life, he was a parishioner of St. Martin de Porres Church (Poughkeepsie).

He attended college at SUNY Maritime (Bronx). In 1970, he graduated on the Admiral's List with his Bachelor's Degree. Gary was commissioned into the United States Navy. At the rank of Lieutenant, he was honorably discharged from Naval service in 1976.

As a United States Merchant Marine, Gary dedicated his professional career to ExxonMobil and achieved the rank of Captain of the SeaRiver Wilmington specialty tanker. Gary led this ship for 20 years, developing strong bonds with his crew, which became his family at sea. Throughout his career, he was highly committed to the safety and success of his crew. In 2005, after 35 years of service, Gary retired with highest respect and recognition in the company.

Above all else, Gary cherished spending time with his family and was an exceptionally proud and loving father and grandfather.

On July 29, 1973, he married Nancy A. Montague at St. John The Evangelist Church in Beacon. Nancy survives at home. Additional survivors include his son, Gary J. Ferrone & his wife Malissa of Robbinsville, NJ; his son, Brian T. Ferrone & his wife Lisa of Highland, NY; his daughter, Lauren A. Kyle & her husband Christopher of LaGrange, NY; his grandchildren: Corinne, Kaitlyn, Liam, Jonathan, Gary Nathan, Adrianna, and Brody; his brother, Gregory J. Ferrone & his wife Diane of Spring, TX; as well as his brother-in-law (Paul), two sisters-in-law (Mary Ann and Joyce), several nieces, nephews, and countless other loving family members and friends.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents as well as his brother, Brian J. Ferrone.

Calling hours will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, March 14 at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 15 at St. John The Evangelist Church, 35 Willow Street, Beacon, NY. Interment will follow at St. Joachim Cemetery, 325 Washington Avenue, Beacon.
