George J. Coffey, a local area resident for 55 years and formerly of Peekskill, died at the River Valley Care Center in Poughkeepsie on Saturday, May 16, 2015. He was 79.
Son of the late George and Hattie (Baum) Coffey, he was born in the Bronx on April 18, 1936. George served his country as a Veteran of the United States Marine Corps.
For more than 30 years, he held many positions as an employee of Shop Rite, having worked at several locations throughout the Hudson Valley. He retired in 2003 as a retail clerk in Fishkill. His hobbies included fishing and trips to the casino.
On August 12, 1960, he married Joan Lynch in Peekskill. He was predeceased by Mrs. Coffey on December 31, 2012.
George is survived by four daughters: Patricia Hayden & her husband Charles of Fishkill, Deborah Coffey of Wappingers Falls, Traci Pomarico & her partner Eric Ganzer of Pine Bush, and Barbara Kemp & her partner Mike Minard of Poughkeepsie; his grandchildren, Casey Cremona & her husband Charlie, Brianne Hayden, Krista Hayden, Andrea Coffey, Ryann Coffey, Cody Pomarico, Christopher Kemp & his wife Eileen, and Dale Kemp; his sisters, Carol Seaboldt of Florida and Joan Markham of Louisiana; and his brother-in-law & sister-in-law, John and Norma Lynch of Massachusetts.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was also predeceased by his sister, Joyce Smith.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 21 at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill. A service will follow at 7:30 p.m. The U.S. Marine Corps will conduct Military Honors.
