POUGHKEEPSIE – George James DeMasi, 15, died on March 3, 2017 at home after a two-year courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Carmel on July 5, 2001, George was the son of Joseph DeMasi and Nicole (Guerts) DeMasi. He was currently a sophomore at Arlington High School.
George enjoyed playing video games and sports, especially basketball. He liked art and loved spending time with his friends. His selfless and positive attitude was contagious, especially during his illness. He will forever be remembered by his family and friends as a loving and caring young man whose humor and smile brightened each day.
George is survived by his mother, Nicole DeMasi and her boyfriend William Strandberg; his father, Joseph DeMasi and his girlfriend Patricia Secreto; his brother, Owen DeMasi; his grandparents, Veronica DeMasi and Brian and Gabriella Thomas; his aunts and uncles, Angela and Vincent Insinga, Patricia Boyle, Paul and Doreen DeMasi, Mark and Sanae DeMasi, and Steven DeMasi and Michael Hilderbrand; and many cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his grandfather, George DeMasi in 1995.
Calling hours will be held on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Tuesday at 10 am at St. Kateri Church, 1925 Route 82, LaGrangeville followed by burial at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne.
A scholarship is being set up at Arlington High School in memory of George. Donations may be made payable to Arlington Education Foundation, 144 Todd Hill Road, LaGrangeville, NY 12540. Please reference "George DeMasi Scholarship" in the memo field.
