FISHKILL - George Edward Murr, 83, an area resident since 1972 and formerly of Jamaica, Queens, died peacefully at his home on March 19, 2025.

Born in Queens on September 24, 1941, he was the son of the late George Murr and Leona (Mumau) Murr Mertz. George proudly served our country in the US Navy as a Gunner's Mate during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He had been employed as an Electronic Technician for Con Edison in Buchanan. Following his retirement, he started another career as a transporter for Hertz. His third job was as a Slot Jockey.

George had been a member of the Baptist Church in Queens and the Church of the Nazarene in Fishkill. He looked forward to his weekly Veterans' Breakfasts at Perkins in Wappingers Falls. He enjoyed investing, traveling, cruising, gambling, and enjoyed eating out and always being aware of the business world, but more than anything, he loved spending time, especially holidays, with his family.

On November 27, 1965, George married the love of his life, Jane Ann Hyatt, who predeceased him on August 10, 2023. He was also predeceased by his daughter Eileen Murr Farley, and his brother John Murr.

George is survived by his son, Edward Murr; his daughter, Catherine Petipas and her husband Keith; his grandchildren, Lily Murr, Chadwick Petipas, Blake Petipas, Victoria Colombo, Deanna Farley and Kessondra Farley; and his great-grandchildren, Mason, Chloe, Dominic, Giovanni and Milanie.

Calling hours will be held on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The funeral service will be held on Saturday at 12pm at the funeral home followed by entombment at Fishkill Rural Cemetery.
