BEACON - George J. Potanovic, Sr., a Dutchess County resident since 1998, formerly of Ossining and Yonkers, NY passed away on Wednesday, November 17, 2021 at the Wingate at Beacon Health Care Facility. He was 92.

While serving in the Navy, George purchased his first camera after a friend showed him Kodachrome slides for the first time. He developed a lifelong passion for photography – and especially loved capturing images of the Hudson Valley, New York City and enhancing digital images in Photoshop. George was a member of the Westchester Photographic Society and always had his camera ready at gatherings with family and friends.
For more than 30 years, he worked for Philips Research Laboratory in Briarcliff Manor, retiring in 1993 as Manager of the Machine Shop and he enjoyed bowling as a league member at Starlight Lanes in Croton. Other hobbies included finding hidden treasure at garage sales, traveling & cruises, as well as watching classic films.
On February 28, 1954, George married Jean M. Jenkofsky at St. John The Baptist Church in Yonkers. In addition to his wife, Jean, he is survived by his son, George, Jr., his wife Joanne and daughter Allison of Stony Point, NY; his son, Steven of West Palm Beach, FL; his daughter, Christine Roberts Potanovic of Fishkill, NY and her children Owen, Dylan, and Ashley; his siblings, John Potanovic, Francis Potanovic, Eleanor Mitchell, and Mary Pellegrino; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives & friends. George was predeceased by his parents as well as three siblings, Joseph Potanovic, Ann Fego, and Edward Potanovic.
George was a parishioner of St. Augustine's Church in Ossining, St. Teresea's Church in Briarcliff Manor and in recent years, Mary, Mother of the Church in Fishkill. More than anything else, he cherished spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
