He was predeceased by his sisters Elsie Stone, Gladys Whartenby; brothers Theodore Richner, Donald Richner; and his grandson Eric Peterson.

Ben's father passed away when he was just 2 years old. At the age of 10, he was sent to Girard College in PA, an orphanage for fatherless boys. He lived there until he graduated from High School in 1956. Ben started working for IBM in Kingston, NY when he was 18 years old. As a condition to being hired, he joined the Reserves as IBM was concerned that he would be drafted. He served 4 years with the New Jersey National Guard, and 4 more years in the US Army Reserves. In addition to Kingston, he also worked in Poughkeepsie, Fishkill Merritt, East Fishkill, Somers, and Orange, NJ during his 36 yearlong IBM career. He retired in 1996 and moved to Punta Gorda, FL where he worked for Siemens and US Filter before retiring again. Ben and Carol moved back to NY in 2016 to be closer to his family.

Ben served as a Trustee at Fishkill Baptist Church for many years where his family was very active. Most recently, he attended Calvary Chapel of Hudson Valley.

The family wishes to thank Hospice of Dutchess County for their kindness and support, and for taking such good care of Ben enabling him to stay at home with his family as long as possible. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Hospice of Dutchess County.
