WAPPINGERS FALLS – George C. Schmidt, Jr., 75, a resident of Wappingers Falls for 20 years, died peacefully at home on November 15, 2016 with his wife by his side. He previously lived in Putnam Valley.
Born in Tarrytown on June 1, 1941, he was the son of the late George C. and Eleanor (Straube) Schmidt. He proudly served in the US Army. George had been employed as an auto mechanic at Pleasantville Ford for over 30 years until his retirement in 2003.
On May 6, 1989 in Hastings-on-Hudson, George married Sandra Dean Schmidt who survives at home. He is also survived by his children and their spouses, Karen and Michael Curtis of Lawrenceville, GA, Christine and Tony McGinnis of Lawrenceville, GA, and Edward and Donna Schmidt of Wappingers Falls; his stepchildren, Teresa Robinson of Fernandina Beach, FL, Thomas Robinson of Saugerties, Robert Robinson, Jr. of Saugerties, and Kimberly Robinson of Fernandina Beach, FL; his grandsons, William and Nicholas Curtis and Jack and Doug McGinnis; his step-grandchildren, Timothy Wilkinson, Scott Wilkinson, Marissa Wilkinson-Smith, Luke Robinson, Jake Robinson, and Shane Robinson; and his siblings, Janet Peterson and her husband Stanley and Raymond Schmidt.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 2-5 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Monday at 10 am followed by entombment at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery with military honors.
