George Raymond Smith, a Poughkeepsie resident for over 20 years, died on Thursday, May 16, 2013 at the New York State Veterans' Home at Montrose. He was 87.
Son of the late Leroy and Florence Munderback Smith, he was born in Oneida, NY on April 25, 1926. In 1943, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during World War II.
For many years, George worked as a repair technician for Dutchess Refrigeration in Poughkeepsie.
He is survived by his grandchildren, Wayne Lewis (Terri), Randy Lewis (Valerie Jamison), Wendy Wallace (Robert Vandermark), Stephen Lewis, Sean Lewis (Theresa) and Keith Smith; his great grandchildren, Ashley, Stephan, Cody, John, Tadd, Rhiannon, Tara and Sean; his great-great grandchildren, Aubrey, Dante, Autumn, Nevaeh and Taylor; and his son-in-law, Walter Lewis.
George was predeceased in death by his wife Jean Smith, his daughter Linda Lewis, and his son Keith Smith.
He was a kind person and will be greatly missed.
Calling hours will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Tuesday, May 21 at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill. Interment will follow at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery, where the U.S. Navy will conduct Military Honors.
