WAPPINGERS FALLS – George L. Schumacher, Sr., 78, an area resident since 2009 and formerly of Franklin Square and Ridgewood, Queens, died on July 17, 2016 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center with his family surrounding him.

Born in Brooklyn on June 17, 1938, he was the son of Adam and Helen Michitsch Schumacher. George was employed as the shipping supervisor for Dialight Corporation in Brooklyn for 30 years. He had been a parishioner of St. Matthias Church in Ridgewood, Queens.

On April 18, 1964 in Brooklyn, George married Monica Neuhaus who survives at home. He is also survived by his children, Peter Schumacher and his wife Donna of Commack, George Schumacher and his spouse David Zaremsky of Hopewell Junction, Paul Schumacher and his other half Shawn Garnier of Ridgewood, and Jodi Schumacher of Wappingers Falls; and his eight grandchildren; Matthew, Ashley, Thomas, Nicholas, Margaret, Anna, Maya and Jonah.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday, July 22 at St. Matthias Church, 58-15 Catalpa Avenue, Ridgewood, NY 11385. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
