George Vasilakos, a Fishkill resident since 2012 and formerly of Port Richey, FL, Tarpon Springs, FL, Plainview, NY, Queens, NY and Sparta, Greece, died on Wednesday, April 29, 2020 at Stony Brook University Hospital in Stony Brook, NY. He was 92 years old and had been residing in a nursing home in Farmingville, NY.

George was one of six sons of the late John & Voula Vasilakos. He was born in Sparta, Greece on August 15, 1927. George served in the Greek Army and worked on his parent's orange and lemon orchards. He emigrated to the US and started working in the restaurant business in NYC in 1956. A few of his brother had emigrated before him and they lived and supported each other. He worked for Pan American Airways from 1968 to 1985. He valued education and made sure his sons got a college education. George retired in 1989 after managing a diner near his residence.

On November 22, 1959, he married Georgia Vasilakos at St. Paul's Cathedral in Hempstead, NY. He was predeceased in 2016 by Georgia, his wife of 57 years. He is survived by his three sons, John Vasilakos & his wife Vicki of Farmingville, NY, Gus Vasilakos & his wife Aspasia of Wappingers Falls, NY; and William Vasilakos & wife Teresa. He is survived by four grandchildren and their spouses as well as two brothers and their spouses. George is also survived by many nieces, nephews and other loving relatives & friends.

Services will be for immediate family only due to social distancing rules on May 2nd, 2020 at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill, NY. The funeral service will be officiated by Rev. Fr. Jason Dickey. Interment will follow at Fishkill Rural Cemetery where he will be reunited with his wife Georgia.
