Georgiana (Joni) Horboychuk passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on March 25, 2022.

Joni was born on July 2, 1939 in the Bronx, daughter of Harold and Rita Pontez. She grew up with three loving siblings: Harold Pontez (Agnes), Dolores Pantore (Butchie), and Thomas Pontez (Lynn).

She graduated in 1957 from Walton high school in the Bronx and later moved up to Dutchess County where she met the love of her life Joseph Horboychuk (who predeceased her in 2000). They married November 17, 1962 St. Denis church in Hopewell Junction.

Together they raised four children Joseph Horboychuk (Siobhan), Deborah Zelker (John) , Daniel Horboychuk (Jennifer), and Dolores Volek (Kenneth).

Georgiana worked for the Arlington Central School District as a cashier at Noxon Road Elementary school for many years.

Nothing made Joni more happy than spending time with her seven grandchildren Joey, Shane, Danielle, Johnny, Kylie, Madison, and Ava.

Joni lived her life to the fullest. Always the first one on the dance floor and always ready to travel. She enjoyed many family vacations including trips to Schroon Lake, the Caribbean, Mexico, Ireland, Hawaii, and most recently France, Spain, Mallorca, and Italy.

Joni is survived by her loving nieces and nephews Harold, Cathy, Dennis, Glenn, Joey, Tommy, Elizabeth, TJ, and Erin. And many great nieces and nephews.

Joni was also blessed with an amazing group of friends and cousins who she loved dearly. Especially her sidekick Geri Dinotte. Together they enjoyed Broadway shows, bus trips, shopping sprees, countless lunches and dinners, and stretch class … always followed by a trip to Dunkin' Donuts. Joni had a busier social calendar then her children and grandchildren!

A devout catholic, Joni drew much strength through her faith and we have no doubt that she is one again with her loving husband Joe in heaven.

Joni will be incredibly missed but her legacy will live on through all of the amazing memories she made with her family and friends.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, March 29th from 4pm-8pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10am on Wednesday, March 30th at St. Denis Church, 602 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction. Burial will follow at St. Denis Cemetery.
