EAST FISHKILL - Geraldine Murphy, 87, an area resident since 1960 and formerly of Brooklyn, died peacefully at her home on December 13, 2021.
Born in Brooklyn on March 29, 1934, she was the daughter of Alfonso and Lillian (Kane) Apicella. Geraldine was employed by the Plaza Pharmacy in Hopewell Junction for many years. She was a devoted parishioner of St. Columba Church and was a member of the Altar Rosary Society. She was also an associate member of the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal in the Bronx and traveled with them to Yugoslavia and Israel. Geraldine was a member of the East Fishkill Republican Club and was an elections poll watcher. She enjoyed traveling, bowling, and eating out.
In 1958 at St. Patrick's Church in Brooklyn, Geraldine married James P. Murphy who predeceased her on August 21, 1998. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Patricia and Michael Bailey, and Stephen and Wendy Murphy; her grandchildren and their spouses, Justin and Annalise Murphy, Chelsea Murphy and James Coen; her great-grandson, Jameson Ryan; and her nephews and niece, Thomas Shannon, Bryan Shannon and Vicki Vogenberger. She was predeceased by her sister, Joan Beamer.
The family would like to thank Margo, Robin, Roxanne and Tavi for their kindness and support with everything that they did to honor Geraldine's wish to stay in her home.
Calling hours will be held on Friday from 4-8pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction, NY 12533. The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday at 10am at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction followed by interment in St. Denis Cemetery.
