Gerhard Freyer, more well known as "Que," 76, a resident of Hopewell Junction since 1971 and previously of Yorktown Heights, died on Saturday, September 6, 2014 at Mid Hudson Regional Medical Center.
Born in the Bronx on November 1, 1937, he was the son of Gerhard and Ramona Quevdo Freyer. He worked for 3X before becoming his own boss by opening his motorcycle business, House of Triumph in Thornwood, NY. He was a life member of DCPA, the Dutchess County Pistol Association.
On September 29, 2002, Que married Sandy Corey who survives at home. He is also survived by his daughter, Kim Fuentes of Mahopac; son-in-law, Bob Turro of Clinton Corners; stepchildren, Stacey MacStravic of Concord, NH, Chris MacStravic and his wife Laura of Alton, NH; grandchildren, Marissa Turro, Arianna Turro, Zoe Fuentes, Sabrina MacStravic, Liam MacStravic, Danielle Simpson and Aislinn MacStravic. He was predeceased by his first wife of 40 years, Mary Jo; his daughter, Dawn Turro; and his brother, Bill Freyer.
One of the sports in Que's life was pistol shooting. In the late 1970's and early 1980's, Que won several trophies and awards for different competitions in pistol shooting. He was the first local athlete to win a gold medal at the Empire State Games in Syracuse in August of 1978 with a total of 531 points.
Motorcycles were Que's life. He raced for a while then after quitting racing, he sponsored up and coming racers. His shop was open to any biker who wanted to learn more about fixing them. Pizza was usually available on Saturdays and his crowd started calling his workroom "Q's Clubhouse." He started with Triumphs, then also took on the BMW line. What Que didn't know about Triumphs and BMW's wasn't worth knowing! He was quite a legend in his field and didn't travel anywhere without running into someone who knew him.
A celebration of his life will be held at his home on Sunday, September 13th from noon to 5 pm. There will be a service at 1pm. For online condolences, please visit Gerhard's Book of Memories at www.mchoulfuneralhome.com.
