EAST FISHKILL - Gert E. Wegner, 89, an area resident since 1978 and formerly of Mahopac, died on January 27, 2025 at his home.

Born in Halle, Germany on August 4, 1935, he was the son of Erich and Klara (Thieme) Wegner. Gert proudly served our country in the US Air Force, He had been employed as the Food Service Director at Putnam Hospital Center for many years.

Gert was a member of the Germania Club of Poughkeepsie, He enjoyed stamp collecting, fishing and camping, but more than anything, his grandchildren were #1 to him!

On January 24, 1959 in New York City, Gert married the love of his life, Edeltraut Wolf, who survives at home, after 66 years of marriage. He is also survived by his children, Erika Carlino, Ralph Wegner and his wife Susan, and Ronald Wegner; his sister, Elke Mitchell; his grandchildren, Michelle, Wendy, Emelia, Deanna, Robert, Keith, Alexandria, Derrick and Erich; and his great-granddaughter, Hannah.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday from 1-4pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. There will be a funeral service at 4pm, and military honors will follow.
