Gertrude Mary Houlihan, a Dutchess County resident since 1986, formerly of Queens, Brooklyn, and Canada, died at home on her 90th birthday, Saturday, July 3, 2010. She was a member of St. Columba Church in Hopewell Junction.
Born in St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada on July 3, 1920, she was daughter of the late Patrick and Mary Anne Sullivan O'Leary. On October 3, 1944, Gertrude married Anthony F. Houlihan. Mr. Houlihan predeceased Gertrude on September 25, 1987.
She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Houlihan of Pleasant Valley; son-in-law, Joe Cardella of Pleasant Valley; grandchildren, Peter Cardella & his wife Cristin of Austin, TX, Patrick Cardella & his wife Mary of Pleasant Valley, and Nicole Haren & her husband Paul of Peoria, AZ; great-grandchildren, Lucas, Gavin, Anthony, Matthew, Layla, and Sarah.
Gertrude was predeceased by her daughter, Barbara Cardella on August 11, 2009, her grandson, Thomas Letizia on April 8, 1994, as well as her brothers and sister. Calling hours are from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, July 6th at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 7th at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction, followed by interment in St. Denis Cemetery, Hopewell Junction.
