Gilbert W. Darrah, Jr., a resident of Wallkill for nearly 50 years, formerly of Wappingers Falls, Beacon, and Glenham, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 16, 2026 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. He was 76.
Born in Plattsburgh on January 13, 1950, he was the son of the late Gilbert and Ida (Stark) Darrah. In 1967, he proudly enlisted in the US Marine Corps, serving on active duty until 1970 before continuing as a Reservist. He was honorably discharged as a Sergeant in 1973.
Gil dedicated 25 years to the Texaco Research Center in Glenham, where he retired in 2003 as an Administrative Supervisor. Never one to slow down, he later worked for Tower Management Services until 2015. In addition to his professional career, Gil was a hard working entrepreneur who owned and operated his own construction business specializing in siding, windows, and roofing. He took great pride in his work and was known for his reliability, craftsmanship, and willingness to help others.
A true "Jack of All Trades" who consistently kept himself busy working on projects around the house and was happiest when working with his hands. An avid fisherman, he also enjoyed NASCAR and traveling. More than anything else, he cherished time spent with his family and friends. Gil was fortunate to have many lifelong friends, whose loyalty, friendship and support meant so much to him throughout his life.
On July 1, 1972, he married the love of his life, Lynne O'Donnell at St. John the Evangelist Church in Beacon. Together they shared more than 53 years of marriage and a lifetime of memories. Lynne survives at home in Wallkill.
Gil is also survived by his loving daughter, Kelly Boccard (James) of Wallkill; his grandson, Evan Boccard, who brought him great joy; his siblings, Stephen Darrah (Blen), Dennis Darrah (Sue), Donna Pecoraro (Pete), and Christine Schwartz; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
Calling hours will be held from 11:00am to 1:00pm, followed by a service at 1:00pm on Thursday, May 21 at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill, NY. Interment will follow at Fishkill Rural Cemetery, 801 Route 9, Fishkill, NY.
