Giovanni (John) Crescente (1946-2024)
Giovanni Crescente, 78, of Fishkill, New York, passed away surrounded by loved ones on August 18, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love and kindness.
Giovanni was born on April 22, 1946, in Barletta, Italy. He immigrated with two of his siblings to Brooklyn, New York at the age of 18, where he eventually graduated from Baruch College with a BA in Business Administration. Giovanni worked at E.J. Korvette department store as an Accessory Manager, and then spent most of his career in the restaurant business. He enjoyed singing and his favorite musicians included Frank Sinatra and Engelbert Humperdinck. Giovanni loved anything planes, trains, and automobiles, keeping Pan Am model planes on his desk at home and going to JFK to watch the planes take off and land. He would also stop by the Queen Mary 2 ship in Brooklyn whenever it came to port.
Above all, Giovanni's greatest joy was spending time with his loving wife of 25 years, Marie Crescente, his family, and his friends. His gentle spirit, caring nature, and ability to make everyone feel valued defined him as a truly special person.
Giovanni is survived by his devoted wife, Marie Crescente; his daughter, Daniella Crescente; stepdaughter, Danielle (Alan) DeFabbio; stepson, Vincent (Erin) Cannizzaro; and his beloved grandchildren, Thea, Mateo, Dominic, Daniel, and Charlotte. He is also survived by his sister, Maddalena Setaro; his brother, Paul; and his first wife, Wilma. Giovanni was predeceased by his parents, Loreta and Francesco; his siblings Vincenza, Antonio, Savino, and Maria Cuonzo.
Giovanni will be remembered fondly for his contagious smile, warmth, generosity, and the indelible mark he left on the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 2-6pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday at 10am at St. Mary, Mother of the Church, 103 Jackson Street, Fishkill followed by interment in Resurrection Cemetery in Staten Island.
