Giovanni (John) Saverio Marano, 78, a resident of Dutchess County since 1979, died on Friday, September 11, 2009 at The Kent in Litchfield, CT surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on October 20, 1930 in Mt. Vernon, NY, the son of Mariano and Filomena DeRosa Marano.  John graduated Tuckahoe High School in 1949 and served our country in the US Air Force in Okinawa, Japan as an Engineer. He was a self-employed Licensed Land Surveyor in NY, CT & FL, retiring in 2005. He enjoyed convertible cars, golfing, flying model airplanes, and playing the guitar.

John is survived by his loving wife, Judith; they were married on May 16, 1998 at the Trinity United Methodist Church in LaGrangeville, NY. He is also survived by his children, Susan Marano Feldman and her husband David of Fishkill, NY, Pamela Marano of Cary, NC, John Marano, Jr. of Boston, MA and Dawn Marano of New Mexico, and his brother Phil Marano of Scarsdale. He is also survived by former wife, Carole Tiffany of Cary, NC as well as many adoring nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by five sisters, Nina DeMario, Lucy Maiello, Addie Wagner, Mary Slater and Rose Janiello.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, September 19, 2009 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction followed by military honors. Arrangements are under the direction of the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., Hopewell Junction. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
