Obituary

Gladys Marie Antedomenico, 91, a life-time resident of Hopewell Junction passed away peacefully after nearly a two-year battle with Bladder cancer on Friday, September 26, 2014 at MidHudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie.
She was born to the late Lydia and Harvey Davis on March 18, 1923 in Hopewell Junction, NY. She was the last of nine siblings: Harvey, Marion, Harold, Grace, Viola, Ken, Dot, Errol and Gladys. She married the late Stephen J. Hatala in 1942 and they had five children together. Gladys was remarried to Paul V. Antedomencio in 1964. Gladys and Paul had just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on September 9th.
Gladys first worked in a bleachery in Wappingers Falls, NY, then a textile factory in Beacon, NY and finally became a career foster mother for 31 years. Some children were only with her for days, weeks or months, while others were with her from a young age through 18 years old. Some of her fondest memories were of the impact she was able to make in these children's lives by providing them a stable, routine and loving environment. There are many success stories of the children she took care of, from a young troubled teenage girl who returned to her mother as a happy, respectful, hardworking teenager to a baby girl who was born with an arm abnormality and raised her to successfully adapt and later went on to have a successful military career as a nurse. Gladys was humbled and honored to receive the local Dutchess County Mother of the Year Award in 1977.
Gladys was an avid bowler where she received numerous awards and trophies. She loved touring the country in their motor home and living in Brooksville, FL in the winter. She had a gift for writing beautiful poems about her family and she always enjoyed playing card games and bingo with friends and family.
She is survived by her husband, Paul; daughter Donna M. Hatala Hillman of Hopewell Junction, NY; son Stephen J. Hatala,II and wife MaryJo Hatala of St. Louis, MO; daughter Suzanne R. Hatala Scalzi and husband Stephen Scalzi of Cottekill, NY; and daughter Kimann Hatala Keller and husband Allan Keller of Keystone Heights, FL; her grandchildren, Robin Hillman, Shawn Hillman Petagine, Tatum Hatala Hodges, Stephen Hatala III, Hannah Hatala Hackett, Anthony Messina, Carly Hatala Little, Paul Hatala, Jesse Messina, Stefanie Scalzi, and Rebecca Scalzi; her 20 great- grandchildren, and nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends. In addition to her late husband, Stephen, she was predeceased by her son Samuel Hatala.
