CLARKSVILLE, TN – Gladys Ruth (Barrett) O'Dell, 73, of Clarksville, TN and formerly of Adams Center, South Wingdale/Pawling and Patterson, NY, died on Sunday, March 28, 2010 at her daughter's home.
Born on June 16, 1936 in Stormville, NY, she was the daughter of Chester A. and Estelle Secore O'Dell Barrett. She was employed as a therapy aide for the Harlem Valley Psychiatric Center in Wingdale for five years and, most importantly, a stay at home mom of eleven children. Gladys was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 5344 in Adams, NY. She enjoyed collecting Elvis memorabilia, playing Lotto and spending time with family and friends.
Gladys is survived by children, Janet (David) Sullivan of Swansboro, NC, William O'Dell Jr. of Adams Center, NY, Bryant O'Dell of Adams Center, NY, Bonnie (John) Miller of Binghamton, NY, Brenda (Robert) Clark of Dover Plains, NY, Cheryl Krull of Walden, NY, Kevin (Robin) O'Dell of Chapin, SC, Carl (Vicky) O'Dell of Chapin, SC, Richard (Brandi) O'Dell of IA, Donald O'Dell of Walden, NY and Hope (TJ, aka Mom's Brown Sugar) Moore of Clarksville, TN; her sisters, Mabel Anderson of Patterson, NY and Irene Gilbert of Greeley, PA; her brother, William Barrett of Patterson, NY; 33 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 25 years, William H. O'Dell, Sr.; her partner of 25 years, Bruce Robbins; her brothers, Chester, Lawrence, Roy and Nelson Barrett; her sister, Lillian Mathews; her stepsister, Emma Camarco; her stepbrother, Clarence Cory; and her granddaughter, Tammy Sullivan.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction, NY. The funeral service will be held on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Jon M. Ellingworth officiating. Interment will follow in the Halstead Union Cemetery in Kent Cliffs, NY.
