Obituary

Gordon R. "Buck" Schetter, a lifelong resident of Glenham, died peacefully at home on Sunday, January 18, 2015 after courageously battling cancer for over four years. He was 83.
Son of the late Adolph and Pearl (Rhine) Schetter, he was born on August 28, 1931. He graduated from Beacon High School in 1949 and in 1951 enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, where he served on active duty until being honorably discharged.
Gordon's career in banking began at the Matteawan National Bank. He then went on to work for Fishkill National Bank, where he served as branch manager at many locations including Hopewell Junction, Cold Spring, Beacon, and Fishkill. He retired from the bank in 1996 as a Vice President, after providing loans to many local residents the "old fashioned way", with a smile and a hand shake.
An avid sports fan who loved the New York Giants and Mets, he received the greatest enjoyment watching his grandchildren participate in their activities. He was an active member of the community and participated with several non-profit and civic organizations. He was a member of the board of directors for Fishkill Rural Cemetery and member of the Southern Dutchess Country Club. He was also a life member of the Slater Chemical Fire Company in Glenham.
On July 20, 1963, he married Mary Ann McGovern at St. John the Evangelist Church in Beacon. Mrs. Schetter survives at home.
He is also survived by his son, Eric Schetter; his daughter, Maribeth Affeldt-Smith & her husband Michael; his son, Brian Schetter & his wife Veronica; his grandchildren, Patrick & Lauren Schetter, Grace Affeldt, Hunter & Madeline Smith, Braden & Zachary Schetter, and Rachel & Isabelle Smith; his brother, Noel Schetter; his nieces and nephews, Peter Lynch, Paula Allen, Nona Lynch, N. Michael Schetter, Kerry Ann Bliss, and Adolph "A.J." Schetter; his daughter-in-law, Catherine McCarthy Schetter; his son-in-law, Kenneth Affeldt; and also many great-nieces & great-nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his brother, Douglas Schetter, his sister, Emily Lynch, and his nephew, Douglas Schetter.
Calling hours will be held from 1 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, January 21 at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, 1089 Main Street, Fishkill. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 22 at the funeral home, followed by interment at Fishkill Rural Cemetery.
