Obituary

Grace Lucie Gleason, 89, died peacefully on July 8, 2026 at the Taconic at Hopewell. She was the widow of Stephen R. Gleason who predeceased her on March 8, 2018.

Born on May 12, 1937 in Chicago, IL, Grace was the daughter of the late Carl and Julia (Schlenker) Ostrom.

She was married in 1957 to Warren F. Griffin, Jr. (now deceased) in Berrien Springs, MI. She is survived by her children from this marriage: Brian Griffin and his wife Leticia of Pawling, William Griffin and his wife Amy of East Wareham, MA, Nancy Kibe of Beacon, and James Griffin and his wife Gina of Clayton, NC; her grandchildren, Trevor and Brittany Griffin, Kaltlyn Griffin, Kimberly (Germaine) Babbitt, Crystal Cservak, Ryan Kibe (Dominique), Alicia Griffin, Jennifer Griffin, and Ian Griffin; her great-grandchildren, Kaleb, Nina, Christina, Logan, Callan, Alynn, Gemma, Charles, Ryan, Scarlett, and Genevieve; her sister, Pauline (Patrick) Furner; brother-in-law, Julius Grau; and the extended family of her deceased spouses, Richard Shattuck and Stephen Gleason.

She was also predeceased by her granddaughter, Desiree Griffin; her great-grandchildren, Kirah DiRienzo and Treyvon Cook; and her brother, Carl Ostrom; and her sister, Esther Grau.

Grace was employed as a Registered Nurse for over 24 years, 21 of them at the VAMC at Castle Point and Montrose. She retired in 1999.

Calling hours will be held at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction on Monday, July 20th from 10-11 am followed by a funeral service at 11 am. Burial will follow at St. Denis Cemetery.

Donations may be made in Grace's memory to her favorite charities, any Veteran or military organization, or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
