Family patriarch H. Todd Brinckerhoff, Jr., 77, passed on Monday, August 16, 2010 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center.
Born in Beacon on June 26, 1933, he was the son of the late Hampton Todd and Esther Barkalow Brinckerhoff. A lifelong resident of Fishkill, he was born and raised in the Brinckerhoff Homestead. He also maintained additional residences in Wolfeboro, NH and Ocean Reef Club, FL. After graduating from Hobart College, Todd joined the Connecticut Mutual Life Insurance Company. In 1961 with partner John Neuville, Todd formed Brinckerhoff and Neuville Insurance.
In addition, Todd served on the boards of Mount Saint Mary College, Vassar Brothers Hospital and the Fishkill Rural Cemetery. Notably, he was one of the founders of the Fishkill Bank and Trust Company, which eventually became M & T Bank. Todd’s involvement with Marist College had been significant. With more than a decade of serving as a devoted trustee and advisor, he was the inspiration and principal proponent of the Hudson River Valley Institute. Todd was active with the Fishkill Rotary, area Chambers of Commerce and Protection Engine Company #1 in the Village of Fishkill, and was also a member of the Sons of the American Revolution and the Holland Society. He attended the First Reformed Church of Fishkill and Trinity Episcopal Church.
As a freshman at Hobart College, Todd met Beverly Baader in 1952. They were engaged their sophomore year, and just after graduating were married on June 25, 1955. Beverly, his wife of 54 years, died on August 31, 2009. He is survived by his three daughters, Mary E. Brinckerhoff and her husband George J. Munsterman of Fishkill, Barbara B. Teed and her husband David J. Teed
of Hopewell Junction and Margaret R. Brinckerhoff of New York City; four grandchildren, Jake, Michael, Rebecca and Billy; two step-grandchildren, Crystal and Justin; his sister, Harriet Brinckerhoff Haslett of Manchester, CT; and many other loving family members and friends. In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Derick Franklin Brinckerhoff who was killed in 1950 during the Korean Conflict.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The members of the Protection Engine Company #1 will conduct a service at 6:45 p.m. to conclude the visitation. The funeral service will take place on Friday at 11 a.m. at the Trinity Episcopal Church, 1200 Main Street, Fishkill with Rev. Sr. Jean Campbell officiating. Interment will follow in Fishkill Rural Cemetery.
