Obituary

Harry O'Neill was born in Co. Mayo, Ireland and as a young man made his way first to England where he worked for several years before going to New York where his two older sisters had already emigrated.

He met his wife Rita in New York and they built a life together first in the Bronx and then for many years in Mahopac and then in Fishkill.

Harry was the quintessential Irishman - loved all things Irish, meeting people from 'home', the music and a good joke or story and was active in Irish clubs for many years, particularly the Putnam Emerald Association and the West - Put Gaels Irish football club.

He worked on many notable construction projects all across the five boroughs of New York before getting his CDL and took a job as a bus driver with Liberty Lines.

He proudly became an American citizen, was a lifelong New Yorker and shared his love for the Yankees with his daughter Linda.

As much as he loved New York, he enjoyed departing for a month to sunny Florida to escape the winters and he made many trips across the pond to visit friends and family back in Ireland.

Anywhere you went Harry always knew someone or met someone new. He enjoyed watching the hurling and football broadcast from Ireland and especially to root for the Mayo football team.

He will be deeply missed by his family and many friends.
