POUGHQUAG -Hazel Ryer Jensen, 86, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2022 at her home with her daughter and son by her side. An area resident since 2004, she previously lived in Hawthorne.
Born in Mount Kisco on August 22, 1936, Hazel was the daughter of the late Charles and Emma (Fenn) Ryer. She had been employed as a correctional officer for the NYS Department of Corrections in Valhalla until her retirement. Hazel enjoyed going on cruises and had traveled the world to many countries filling her bucket list with stops in four continents. Her love for photography left us with a legacy of photographs for her family and friends to cherish. She was always there to lend a listening ear and provide words of wisdom.
Hazel is survived by her children, David Jensen of Poughquag and Diane Clarizio and her husband James of Poughquag; her grandchildren, Michael Clarizio, Marc Clarizio, and Analiese Umana; her sister, Audrey Eakes and her husband Robert; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Hazel was also predeceased by her husband of 32 years, Bent Jensen, in 1996; and her siblings, Jeanne Pampalone and Charles Ryer.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 2 – 6 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. A funeral service will be held on Monday at 10 am at the funeral home followed by burial at Kensico Cemetery in Valhalla.
