Obituary

Helen T. Bennett, 82, a resident of Hopewell Junction for 52 years and formerly of Brooklyn, died on Monday, March 12, 2012 at St. Francis Hospital.
Born in Brooklyn on November 1, 1929, she was the daughter of Burton and Annie Hansen Rassmussen. Helen was employed as a secretary for Smith Brothers Cough Drops in Poughkeepsie. She attended the New Hackensack Reformed Church and enjoyed golfing and bowling at Fishkill Bowl. She was an excellent cook and gardener who grew her own fruits and vegetables and made her own jams. She was also a talented seamstress who enjoyed intricate needlework.
Helen is survived by her son, Gary Biktjorn and his wife Wendy; her daughter, Linda Duff; her grandchildren, Elizabeth and Greg Zurawik, Jamie and Ben Truncali, Erica Duff, Adam Duff; and her great-grandchildren, Hayleigh Biktjorn, Brielle Truncali, Katelyn Zurawik and Layla Duff. She was predeceased by her husband, Calvin Bennett; her brother, Raymond Rassmussen; and her great-grandson, Anthony Truncali.
Calling hours will be on Friday from 11am – 12pm at the McHoul Funeral Home Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Funeral Service will follow at 12pm with Rev. Keith Tamlyn officiating. Interment will be in Fishkill Rural Cemetery.
