HOPEWELL JUNCTION – Helen Regina Brooks, 90, an area resident since 2007 and formerly of Croton-on-Hudson, died on October 26, 2017 at White Plains Hospital.
Born in Passaic, NJ on September 23, 1927, she was the daughter of Michael and Anna (Hellrigel) Hobin. Following World War II, Helen worked for the US Navy in the Brooklyn Navy Yard and again in Albany as a Navy Supply Logistics Manager. She had also worked as the initial director for the Springvale Inn and Senior Living Apartments, and as a Real Estate Agent with Dick Albert and Coldwell Banker in Croton-on-Hudson.
As a civic minded citizen and an advocate of children's rights, she was proud to serve as a reporter in the Rowley vs. Hendrick Hudson Supreme Court Case. She had also served on the Westchester County Geriatric Committee, the Westchester Mental Health Committee and National Association of Realtors. An avid reader, Helen enjoyed spending time with the members of the Book Club at Four Corners.
On February 10, 1950 in Clifton, NJ, Helen married Charles Oscar Brooks who still resides at the home they shared. She is also survived by her children and their spouses, Michele Brooks and Chris Neugebauer of Gloucester, MA, and Charles and Cheryl Brooks of Poughquag; her grandchildren, Leigh (Neugebauer) and husband Daniel Germain, Cole Neugebauer, Jacqueline Brooks, and Benjamin Brooks; and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her siblings, Marie Maher, William, James and George Hobin, and Joan Walmach.
