Helen Eisenbaum, 87, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2021. Helen was born on 11/23/33 in Ossining, New York to Mary and William Grossman. She was the youngest of four children, growing up with her three brothers: Arnold, David and Mitchell.
On a trip to Cuba in 1952 she met the love of her life, Cuban born Samuel (Nick) Eisenbaum. When she returned to Ossining they wrote to each other every day, her in English, him in Spanish (translated to English by his best friend) until they were able to finally be together and get married in 1953. Think Lucy and Ricky Ricardo, that was them! The first to the dance floor and the last to leave a wedding or family event – they were the quintessential fun couple. It wasn't long before they started their family, raising four children: Diane, Wayne, Michael and Sondra.
In 1967 they moved to Poughkeepsie NY, where they made many happy memories with their family, visiting relatives and all of their neighborhood friends. Through the years Helen kept busy with her family and eventually worked at TAU Laboratories, Dupont and finally settled in at ARC working with developmentally challenged adults, a job that gave her the most fulfillment and where she was able to make countless positive impacts to those in need.
Helen cherished being around her family and friends. She was a loving mother and grandmother, always very much interested in being a key part of her family's lives. She loved driving her cherry red Honda Coupe, holding court at family reunion pool parties and was known for her wit and ability to banter with the best of them. Often described as tough, funny, sarcastic, and sometimes politically incorrect, she was a hoot to be around. One relative recently commented "What a funny lady, never one to back down from verbal Karate!" That said it perfectly. She was also very kind and loving and always concerned about her children and how they were doing. She was very much loved and will be forever missed by her family and friends.
Helen was predeceased much too soon by her husband Samuel in 1991, her daughter, Diane Eisenbaum in 2015, and is survived by her son, Wayne Eisenbaum and his wife Emily from Buffalo and their four children, Max (wife Megan), Hannah, Yosseline and Wilsson, her son, Michael Eisenbaum, and his wife Toni and their two children, Sam and Nina from East Fishkill and her daughter, Sondra (Eisenbaum) Scott and her husband Charlie from Pleasant Valley and their two children Nick and Jack.
A private immediate family only ceremony was held on Tuesday, May 18 at Sharon Gardens, in Valhalla, NY. Donations in Helen's name can be made to the American Cancer Society or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
