Obituary

EAST FISHKILL – Helen C. Hurley, 89, a long-time resident of Hopewell Junction, died on January 23, 2024 at St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital.

Born in Waterbury, CT on August 8, 1934, she was the daughter of Mariano and Francesca (Sepe) Fusco. Helen was a parishioner of St. Columba Church in Hopewell Junction. Helen loved cruise ships and traveling around the world, dancing, music, and good food. Helen was a very talented ballroom dancer and served for a number of years as a volunteer ballroom dance instructor with Esther & Ben Dance Academy (Pleasant Valley, NY). Helen was a beautiful, kind, and gentle lady who loved children, her family, and who loved chatting with friends, attending ballroom dances at the local Elks Clubs, ballrooms in New York City, and ballroom dancing around the world. Helen was a "fashionista" before that word became popular...always well coiffed and "dressed to the 9s". She was a wonderful cook (especially Italian), loved to eat seafood, and was a jack-of-all-trades who could fix or repair anything that needed fixing in her house, or for her friends...plumbing, electric, appliances, painting. She'd arrive with her dancing shoes on, and her jack-of-all-trades tool kit in hand ready to help friends and family fix and repair anything and everything. Helen indeed celebrated life with a passion.

On November 12, 1956 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Waterbury, Helen married Edward M. Hurley who predeceased her on January 24, 1988. Survivors include her daughter, Nadine H. Hurley (Copley, OH); her son, Dr. Edward K. Hurley (Cornwall, NY); and her grandsons, Christopher J. Weiss (wife Danielle) (Uniontown, OH), Ryan E. Weiss (wife Ashley) (Ellet, OH), Daniel M. Weiss (wife Regan) (Rootstown, OH) and great-grandson Holden R. Weiss (son of Daniel & Regan); brother-in-law, James P. Hurley (Waterbury, CT), niece Louise Marchetti-Zeitlin (husband Danny) (Annapolis, MD), nephew Bobby Marchetti (wife Cathy) (Queens, NY), niece Vicki Fusco-Ferreira (husband Fred) (Torrington, CT), and several other nieces.

Services will be private and interment will be in St. Denis Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc.
