Helen A. Jewell, 96, a 40 year area resident and formerly of Peekskill, died on Monday, April 5, 2010 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie.
Born in Peekskill on July 26, 1913, she was the daughter of John and Mary O'Conner Sewalk. Helen was a parishioner of St. Denis Church in Hopewell Junction and she enjoyed reading.
On May 31, 1936 at the Church of the Assumption in Peeksill, Helen married William V. Jewell who predeceased her on March 5, 1993. She is survived by her sons, Robert M. Jewell and his wife, Mary of Poughkeepsie and William M. Jewell and his wife, Jean of Burlington, VT; 6 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her son, John Jewell, in 1992 and her grandson, James Jewell, in 1987.
There will be no calling hours. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Denis Church, 602 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction followed by interment in St. Denis Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction.
