Helen Agnes Knippler, a resident of Dutchess County for 52 years and formerly of Flatbush, Brooklyn, died on Sunday, September 11, 2016 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie with her loving family by her side. She was 80.
Daughter of the late Philip and Helen Donegan Fairbrother, she was born in Brooklyn on October 31, 1935. She worked in the banking business for many years, and served as the head teller for Manufacturers Hanover Trust at their location in Flatbush.
On November 14, 1964, she married Arthur J. Knippler at St. Jerome's Roman Catholic Church in Brooklyn. Following their marriage, they relocated to Poughkeepsie, where they remained until moving to Fishkill in 2014.
Helen served the community in many ways, such as volunteering for the P.T.A., Mother's Club, and St. Francis Hospital.
She loved spending time in Newport, RI, where she and her husband visited regularly for the past 40 years. She also enjoyed sailing on the Hudson River, and she and her husband were Life Members of Chelsea Yacht Club in Chelsea, NY.
She is survived by her husband, Art at home in Fishkill; her sons, Arthur C. Knippler and his wife Bernadette of Hanover, NH and Robert J. Knippler and his wife Katherine of Middlebury, VT; her granddaughter, Katie Knippler; her step-grandson, David Kloepfer; two sisters, Geraldine Ferry and Jane Fairbrother; and many other loving relatives & friends.
She was predeceased by an infant son, Russell P. Knippler.
Calling hours will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Thursday, September 15, 2016 at St. Mary, Mother of the Church, 106 Jackson Street, Fishkill. The family will then depart for a private interment service at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville, NY.
