H. Lorraine (Bode) Nichols, a long-time resident of East Fishkill, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 6, 2011 surrounded by her family at Wingate at Ulster.

Born on April 19, 1929 in Kingston, she graduated from Kingston High School and Benedictine Hospital School of Nursing. She was a registered nurse for over 50 years, providing care and comfort to others most of her life.

She was predeceased by her husband, Clarence Nichols, after 52 years of marriage. Lorraine is survived by her children: Paul Nichols of Las Cruces, New Mexico, Denise Martino and her husband Jeff of New Paltz, Jeff Nichols and his wife Debbie of Clayton, NC, Bill Nichols of Linden, NJ and Brian Nichols and his wife Rae Ann of East Fishkill. In addition, she is survived by 16 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

Lorraine will be deeply missed by her family and the many people whose lives she touched with her kindness and gentle soul. The family would like to thank the staff at Wingate at Ulster for their professional, compassionate and loving care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lorraine's name to the Wingate at Ulster Residents' Activity Fund or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10 am at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction followed by interment in St. Denis Cemetery.
