Helen Swetz, formerly of Hopewell Junction, passed away on January 5, 2012 at Frey Village Nursing Facility, Middletown, Pennsylvania. She was 96 years old.
Born November 19, 1915 in Corona, Long Island, she was the daughter of Robert and Irene Curtis. She grew up and lived much of her life in the Bronx, New York where she met and married her husband Frank. In 1952, they moved to Hopewell Junction with their two children. Here, she enjoyed the simple pleasures of country life. Helen was a good cook, always maintained a large garden and was a creative quilter and craftsperson. In 2001, due to increased infirmities, she moved to a care facility in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
She was preceded in death by her husband Frank, a former IBM employee, who died in 1996. Helen is survived by a daughter, Cecilia Stepanian and her husband Jerry, Lloyd Harbor, Long Island; a son, Frank and his wife Joan, of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; grandchildren, Jonathan and Andrew Stepanian, Laura Swetz Howe, Mark and Steven Swetz; and great-grandchild, Braden Howe.
She has been interred with her husband in St. Denis Cemetery, Hopewell Junction. A memorial Mass to celebrate her life will be held Friday, March 2,2012 at 11:30 AM in St. Columba Catholic Church, Hopewell Junction, New York. All are welcome to attend. The family requests that no flowers be sent; however, contributions in her honor may be made to a local food bank.
