Helen Cordelia Watson, a local area resident for more than 50 years, passed away at home in Fishkill, NY on Wednesday, October 18, 2023. She was 89.
Daughter of the late Joseph and Mylady (Batts) Love, she was born in Richmond, VA on November 14, 1933. Her family later relocated to Atlantic City, NJ, where Helen graduated from High School in 1954.
After attending IBM's secretarial school, Helen worked as an administrative assistant for many years at the company's locations in East Fishkill and Somers, NY. She retired in 1993.
She was a dedicated member of Beth-El Church of God in Christ in Poughkeepsie. In 1997, she graduated as valedictorian of masters class from the Community Bible Institute in Poughkeepsie, NY. Her favorite saying was, "Thank God for Jesus!" Helen was an active community volunteer and the founder of S.O.S. (Stomp Out Suicide) and took part in Fishkill Teen Youth Ministries.
Helen is survived by her son, Guy Te Watson and his wife Shawn; her son-in-law, Phillip Todd; her "# 1 Special Granddaughter", Esther Joy Watson; her sister, Evelyn Reid; and a host of nieces & nephews along with many other loving relatives & friends.
She was preceded in death by her daughters, Paige Todd and Deena Watson, as well as twelve siblings: Catherine Ingram, Leola Booker, Martinia Hines, Vernice Glass, Shirley Love, David Love, Floyd Love, Joseph Love, Alfred Love, Samuel Love, Pecolia Love, and Delores Love.
Calling hours will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, October 29 at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill, NY. Additional services will be held on Monday, October 30 at Beth-El Church of God in Christ, 91 Hooker Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY. Visitation will take place from 10 to 11 a.m., immediately followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m. with Pastor Dwight A. Hunt officiating. Interment will follow at Wappingers Falls Rural Cemetery, 180 W. Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY.
