Henry J. Tonyes, Jr., a resident of Newburgh, NY since 2013, formerly of Garrison and Shrub Oak, passed away on Thursday, May 16, 2024 at Montefiore St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital. He was 95.
Son of the late Henry J. and Mary A. (Smith) Tonyes, he was born in Queens, NY on November 23, 1928. In 1946, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served as a paratrooper until his honorable discharge in 1948. For many years, he worked as a Logistics Manager for Exxon Mobil at the company's facility in Manhattan.
Henry was a parishioner of St. Mary, Mother of the Church in Fishkill, NY. His hobbies included golf, piano, and aviation. He was an active member of Fishkill All Sport Health & Wellness, where he enjoyed playing racquetball.
On November 26, 1949, he married Louise Ciavattini at St. Monica's Church in Jamaica, Queens, NY. Henry was predeceased by Louise on March 15, 2018.
Survivors include his son, Henry J. Tonyes, III & his wife Karen of Moseley, VA; his son, John Tonyes & his wife Colleen of Hopewell Junction, NY; his daughter, Monica Anderson & her husband Dane of Newburgh, NY; his son, Vincent Tonyes & his wife Kimberly of Beacon, NY; his grandchildren: Michelle & Jeff, Jennifer & Stephen, Samantha & David, Stephanie & Mark, Shaun & Jenna, Paige & Ryan, Dane & Megan, Zachary, Sophia, Vincent, Joshua, and Jackson; his great-grandchildren: Katherine, Emily, Jacob, Elaina, Riley, Antonio, Alyssa, Jack, Shea, Rome, Beau, and Benny; as well as several nieces & nephews and many other loving relatives & friends.
In addition to his wife and parents, Henry was also predeceased by his daughter, Jane Tonyes, in 1966; as well as his siblings and their spouses: Genevieve & Roy Sturtevant, Edwin & Margaret Tonyes, and William & Patricia Tonyes.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, May 19 at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:15 a.m. on Monday, May 20 at St. Mary, Mother of the Church, 106 Jackson Street, Fishkill, NY. Interment will take place at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 22 at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 10 W. Stevens Ave., Hawthorne, NY.
