FISHKILL - Hobart M. "Bart" Brockway, III, a lifelong local area resident, died suddenly on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at MidHudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie. He was 73.
Son of the late Dr. Hobart M. Brockway, Jr., M.D. and Agnes Elaine Stewart, he was born in Poughkeepsie on December 13, 1943.
At the age of 13, Bart developed schizophrenia and continued to combat mental illness throughout his entire life. Despite this adversity, he was able to successfully complete training to become a Corrections Officer, and at the age of 41, he began a long career with the NYS Dept. of Corrections at Fishkill Correctional Facility. He retired in 2005.
Bart was an outdoorsman who enjoyed many hobbies including golf and fishing. He most especially loved sailing and was a member of the Beacon Sloop Club.
On October 14, 1989, he married Karen E. Martini at the Bird & Bottle Inn in Garrison. Karen survives at home in Fishkill.
He is also survived by two sisters, Judith Brockway of Spring Valley and Joan Brockway of Colorado; as well as many nieces & nephews along with their families.
Services will be private. Arrangements are under the direction of the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill.
