Howard R. Beneway, Jr., 82, a lifelong area resident, died on October 23, 2018 at home surrounded by his family.
Born on July 31, 1936 in Poughkeepsie, Howard was the son of Howard and Isabelle (Tillou) Beneway. On November 22, 1959 at New Hackensack Reformed Church in Wappingers, Howard married the love of his life, Patricia Hagen, who predeceased him on November 12, 2017.
Howard was the owner and operator of Fishkill Plains Septic for 55 years until his retirement in 2006. He loved Lionel trains, hunting and fishing. He was a member of Hudson Valley Sportsmen's Association and proud member of the NRA. Dad was a great woodsman, the last of his kind, who taught us to hunt, trap and fish, to respect nature and the outdoors, to take what we needed and to always leave something for tomorrow. Dad loved everything about the outdoors, whether it was fishing or if they weren't biting, catching them with his hands, hunting deer or small game and trapping which he did for all of his life. He could tell you what the animals were doing, where they were going or where they would be on any given day. He especially loved his wild turkey. Dad was one of the first in NYS to get a permit to raise wild turkeys, which will benefit generations to come. And, as mom told us, Dad taught us everything we would ever need to know to survive, no matter what.
He is survived by his children, Howard C. Beneway, Sr. and his wife Karen, Walter Beneway and his wife Lisa and Thomas Beneway and his wife Linda; his grandchildren, Howard Jr. "Buddy", Melissa, Chelsy, Thomas Jr. "Tucker" and his wife Krysta, and Dale; his great-grandchildren, Skyler, Tristen, Aiden, Sophia and Jameson Howard; his sister, Kathy Smith and her husband Robert; and his sister-in-law, Maureen Gardner.
Calling hours will be held on Friday from 4-8 PM at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc, 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday at 10am at the funeral home followed by interment in New Hackensack Cemetery. Please visit Howard's Book of Memories at www.mchoulfuneralhome.com.
