Hugh Hanratty, 76, of Hillside Lake and formerly of Brooklyn, died on Thursday, March 14, 2013 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center.
Born in Brooklyn on January 15, 1937, he was the son of Hugh and Mary Kelly Hanratty. Hugh proudly served our country in the US Army and was employed as a mechanic for Con Edison in Buchanan. He was a former member of the Greenhaven Rod & Gun Club. An avid history buff, he enjoyed listening to and reading the news.
Hugh is survived by his wife, Helen Winslow Hanratty; his son, Patrick Hanratty of Hillside Lake; his stepdaughter, Kelly Romano and husband Vincent of Poughquag; his sister, Margaret Hanratty and her companion Janet Stone of Elmhurst, Queens; his step-grandchildren, Christopher Clark and wife Chelsea, Katie and Aaron Clark; his step,great-grandchildren, Gavin and Ian; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Hugh Hanratty; his stepson, Danny Chaisson; and his siblings, Anne, Lawrence, Theresa and Billy.
Calling hours will be held on Monday from 4-7pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The funeral service will be on Tuesday at 11am at the funeral home followed by interment in St. Denis Cemetery with military honors.
