POUGHKEEPSIE – Idalia Blanca Garcia, 88, an area resident since 2002, passed away peacefully at home on July 31, 2023. She previously lived in Sleepy Hollow, NY, Madrid, Spain, and Guayos, Cuba.
Born in Guayos, Cuba on October 9, 1934, Idalia was the daughter of the late Simon and Lilia (Obregon) Lesmo. On May 10, 1958 in Cuba, she married the love of her life, Mario Luis Garcia who predeceased her on July 28, 1991.
Idalia retired in 2002 from Hudson Photography Industry in Irvington where she was employed for over 28 years. She enjoyed cooking Saturday dinners every week for her entire family and she was an excellent cook. She liked going on family vacations to Sarasota, FL, sewing, and taking care of her plants. More than anything, she loved her family and was a proud Abuela at all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren's soccer, basketball, baseball, and softball games.
Idalia is survived by her children, Lilia (Garcia) Cabello and her husband Jose and Mario Garcia, Jr. and his husband Juan Arias; her grandchildren, Steven and Kourtney Cabello, Alec and Talia Cabello, Mark Garcia, and Nicole Garcia; her great-grandchildren, Avery, Sabrina, and Adrian Cabello and Xavier Jesurum; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, Idalia was also predeceased by her brothers, Julio and Nelson Lesmo.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, August 1st from 4 – 8 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill. Family and friends will gather at the funeral home on Wednesday, August 2nd at 10 am to follow in funeral procession to Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.
