Our family has sad news. Our Mom, Irene F. Janendo McCrief of Delray Beach, Florida and Fishkill, New York, died the evening of November 14, 2011 at 6:30 PM, from Chronic Renal Disease. Her family was by her side at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, where she was born on December 7, 1929 in Poughkeepsie, New York.
Irene “Toot” was the youngest daughter of the late Veronica Rose Plavcan and Andrew Janendo, in a large family of ten children. On July 25, 1948, she married the love of her life, Andrew Joseph McCrief, at St. John’s Church, Poughkeepsie, New York. They shared 39 years of marriage until Andrew’s death in 1988.
Irene was a resident to Delray Beach since 1984, and resided with her daughter Pamela in Fishkill during her illness. Irene was a local resident of Poughkeepsie, New York from her birth in 1929 through 1984.
Irene attended Elsworth Elementary School and Graduated from Poughkeepsie High School in 1948; worked for a Photographer in New City, New York and E.V. Howard Insurance Company in Poughkeepsie, while her family was attending school.
She was predeceased by her loving husband, Andrew “Bud” on November 10, 1988 and her cherished son, Timothy on September 27, 1985.
She is survived by her loving children, daughter & caregiver, Pamela A. McCrief of Fishkill, New York; daughter, Darlene McCrief Malley & her husband Kenneth, of Pleasant Valley, New York; son Lawrence A. McCrief & his wife Lisa of Trophy Club, Texas; and son, Ronald McCrief & his wife Cheryl of Delray Beach, Florida.
Nana to her dear Grandchildren, Ryan A. Polletta of Pleasant Valley, New York; Adam L. Polletta of Poughkeepsie, New York; Kara L. McCrief & Fiancé Thomas McDermott of Evanston, Illinois; Jeffrey L. McCrief & wife Colleen of Houston, Texas; and Brian Parrott of Seoul, South Korea.
Irene is survived by her loving Sister and Brother-in-Law, Veronica Betty & LeRoy Parkton; and Sister, Agnes Hauver. She was predeceased by Brothers, John, George, Andrew, and Frank Janendo; Sisters, Anna Janendo, Mame Funk, & Helen Lillis.
Irene was a proud Aunt and “Mom” to many of her siblings’ children, with many loving nieces, nephews, and their children; special godchildren, William Parkton and Janice Stankus; friend Florence King; numerous family and friends, who shared laughter over the years. With special thanks to Dr. Rachna Sahityani, whose love, guidance, and expertise helped Mom during her illness with grace and compassion. The family thanks Vassar Brothers Medical Center’s Respiratory Care Unit for their caring support.
Following Irene’s request, cremation will take place prior to the celebration of her life. Calling hours will be on Friday, December 2, 2011 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill, NY. Irene’s Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 3, 2011 at St. Mary, Mother of the Church, 106 Jackson Street, Fishkill, New York with Rev. Patrick Curley as Celebrant. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Poughkeepsie, New York.
