BEEKMAN - Irene N. Winby, 91, an area resident for 48 years and formerly of Brooklyn, died on June 13, 2025 at Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital.
Born in Brooklyn on March 11, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Rocco and Maria (Caputo) Pasqualicchio. She worked alongside her husband in their family-owned laundry service until 1977 when they moved to Beekman and ran Lake Service Station. Irene had also been employed as a secretary for Century 21 in LaGrangeville.
Irene spent many years involved with Cub Scout Pack 62 in Brooklyn. She also enjoyed nature programs, black and white movies, and refurnishing old furniture. Irene had a passion for cooking for family and friends, and tending to her garden and plants.
Irene loved spending time with her family at their vacation home on Upton Lake. Her grandchildren were her world.
On October 30, 1954 in Brooklyn, Irene married the love of her life, Allan Knowles Winby, whom she met in the fifth grade. He predeceased her on February 26, 2017. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Allan "Abba" and Mary Winby, Steven and Diane Winby, and Kathleen and Duncan Phyfe; and her grandchildren, Bernadette Winby, Taylor Winby Golembiewski and her husband Dan, and Duncan Phyfe and his wife Janna.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, June 23 from 4-7pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. Private interment will be in the Friends Upton Lake Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
