Jack R. Apicella, a Fishkill resident since 2001 and formerly of the Bronx, passed away on Tuesday, October 25, 2022 at MidHudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie. He was 91.
Son of the late Vincenzo and Carmela (Capone) Apicella, he was born in Manhattan on December 17, 1930. In 1948, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged as Sergeant in 1951.
Jack worked for the New York City Department of Sanitation as well as the Department of Parks & Recreation. He retired in 1982.
He was a parishioner of St. Mary, Mother of the Church in Fishkill. Jack enjoyed gardening, music, cigars, and he always loved spending time in the sun. More than anything else, he cherished his family & friends, most especially his grandchildren.
In 1952, he married Lucia T. Marra at St. Anthony's Church in the Bronx. Jack was predeceased by Lucia in 2012.
He is survived by his daughter, Jacqueline Pettinati (Ronald) of East Fishkill; his daughter, Christine Brody (James) of Putnam Valley; his daughter, Stephanie Pipola (Louis) of East Fishkill; his son, Jack V. Apicella (Elizabeth) of Monroe; his grandchildren, Justin Pettinati, Giana-Jolie Pipola, Jack Apicella, Joseph Apicella, and Matthew Apicella; his sister-in-law, Christine Favale; as well as several nieces, nephews, and many other loving relatives & friends.
In addition to his wife and parents, Jack was also predeceased by his brother, Alfonse "Funzie" Apicella.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, October 30 at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, October 31 at St. Mary, Mother of the Church, 106 Jackson Street, Fishkill, NY. Entombment will follow at Ferncliff Cemetery, 280 Secor Road, Hartsdale, NY.
