Obituary

James Joseph Conroy passed away on November 27, 2025 at the age of 92. Born in Mahanoy City, Pennsylvania on May 23, 1933, he was the son of the late James and Bertha (Bartholomew) Conroy.

Jay graduated from Frackville High School in 1951 and immediately joined the U.S. Air Force. He proudly served our country for 4 years, with part of his deployment being in Southern France. Upon returning home from the Air Force, he immediately became a member of the American Legion.

He went to work for Reading Railroad for a short time, and then started his 37 year career at IBM as a Field Manager, moving around a bit before settling in the White Plains, NY location.

James met his beloved wife Geraldine (Loddo) Conroy when she was a cheerleader at a local rival high school. They kept in contact for years and finally married in 1959. They have spent 66 beautiful years together, raising a family, traveling, and making all kinds of happy memories.

Jay became a Knight of Columbus as well as a member of the Elks Club when he and Geraldine were living in Summers Point, NJ. He was very active in both, and especially enjoyed acts of service giving back to fellow Veterans, such as cooking and delivering Thanksgiving meals to many Veterans, and visiting VA hospitals and nursing homes.

After Jay's retirement, he and Geraldine settled for a time in Calabash, NC. Both being avid golfers, they could always be found on the golf courses, enjoying a good game. Jay was an avid reader who loved history, and a devoted fan of his Philadelphia Eagles.

Jay is survived by his beloved wife Geraldine Conroy; their two daughters: Kathleen Cooper and her husband Christopher, and Virginia Hughes and her husband Timothy; their grandchildren: Ryan Cooper and his wife Michele, Kevin Cooper and his wife Erin McNeill, and Joshua Hughes and his fiancé Kirsta Tortorice; their two great-grandsons Brendan and Ethan Cooper; as well as his sister Ann Hiester and many other extended family.

Jay was predeceased by 6 siblings.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Monday December 1, 2025 at 12:15pm at St. Mary, Mother of the Church 106 Jackson St. Fishkill, NY.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Jay's memory to a Veteran's charity of your choice.
