Obituary

James Coppola, a longtime resident of Yonkers, passed away on October 13, 2010 at his home in Hopewell Junction. He was 91 years old.

Mr. Coppola was born on October 4, 1919 and was the son of Francesco and Maria (DeAngelis) Coppola. He was one of nine children and grew up in New York City. Mr. Coppola married the late Ann (Keeley) Coppola in January, 1946 after proudly serving his country during World War II as a soldier in the US Army. They had three children: a daughter, Ann Marie and twin sons, Frank and the late James.

Mr. Coppola owned and operated Lehigh Oil Supply Company for over forty years and retired in the early 1990s. In retirement, Mr. Coppola returned often to France where he had served during World War II. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, was a longtime New York Mets fan and a pigeon and bowling enthusiast. Mr. Coppola was a parishioner of St. Mary's Church in Mount Vernon and, more recently, a parishioner at St. Denis Church in Hopewell Junction.

Mr. Coppola is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Ann Marie and John DeNicholas of LaGrangeville; his son, Frank Coppola of Long Beach, CA; and his three grandchildren, Joseph DeNicholas and his wife, Susan of LaGrangeville, Kathleen (DeNicholas) Tavani and her husband, Andrew of Hoboken, NJ and James Coppola of Brooklyn. He is also survived by four great-grandchildren whom he adored, Blaec, Julia, Mason and Alexander.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, October 15, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, October 16, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Denis Church, 602 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction followed by interment in St. Denis Cemetery with military honors.
