Dumser
June 12, 1951 – August 3, 2025
Deputy Police Chief James Michael Dumser passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on August 3,2025. Born in the Bronx, NY on June 12, 1951, he was the son of the late Sebastian and Patricia (Malone) Dumser. On November 18, 1978 he married the love of his life Deborah (Morley) Dumser at Immaculate Conception Church in Tuckahoe, NY.
After graduating Nichols College, where he played baseball and obtained a Bachelor's degree in Marketing, he pursued a career in law enforcement which spanned 42 years. Starting out as a a patrolman in the Mount Vernon Police Department Jim obtained the ranks of Detective, Sergeant, Captain until finally retiring with the rank of Deputy Chief. Some of the proudest moments in his career were, in 2004, Jim graduated from the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Va and in 2012, he was featured in the Irish Echo as one of the top 50 in Law Enforcement - receiving the distinguished Community Service Award. James was a proud member of the Police Emerald Society of Westchester County Pipes and Drums where he served as Pipe Corporal and Band Historian and was appointed a Member of Honor.
Jim loved baseball, the ocean, celebrating his Irish heritage, and having a great time with family and friends.
In addition to his beloved wife Debbie, Jim is survived by his 5 children. James M. Dumser, Jr and his wife Jamie. Patrick T. Dumser and his wife Jaime, Kerry M. Vittone and her husband Brian, Katherine A. Nicholson and her husband Geoffrey, and Daniel S. Dumser and his wife Catherine and his 11 grandchildren James Michael III, Michaela, Robert, Joseph, Charlotte, Brody, Declan, Bailey, Una, Caileigh, and Ronan. He is also survived by his sisters Catherine Lawlor and her husband William, Margaret Dumser and Susan Dumser along with numerous cousins, nieces and nephews . Jim was predeceased by his sister Patricia Amann.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday August 5th, 2025 from 3-7 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc. 895 Route 82 Hopewell Junction. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday August 6th, 2025 at 10 am at St. Columba Church 835 Route 82 Hopewell Junction, followed by interment at St. Denis Cemetery 604 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction.
