James Arthur Edwards, Sr. departed this life on March 31, 2014. He was born on July 29, 1923 in Norfork, VA to William and Sarah Edwards of Windsor, NC.
James joined the U.S. Marine Corps, fought in WWII, and was honorably discharged as a Corporal. He married Louise Tate of Durham, NC, and had three children: James A. Edwards, Jr., Robin Edwards and Wendy Edwards.
James started his own interior and exterior painting company and was very successful. Some of his hobbies were building race cars and racing at Dover raceway. He also enjoyed boating on the Hudson, bowling, apple picking at the apple farm for a hot apple pie and piper cup plane rides with his children. He was a loving father and an asset to his community in Ossining, NY where he lived most of his life.
He is survived by two daughters Wendy White (husband James) and Robin Lake (husband Bennie deceased); son Michael Edwards; daughter-in-law, Cindy Edwards; nephew William Bailey (wife Jane); brother-in-law James Tate; cousins Evelyn Lassiter and Rudy Allen; along with many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
James was predeceased by his wife Louise Edwards, Joan Baker; son, James A. Edwards Jr., sisters, Maggie Johnson, Rheba Slaughter, Clara Peterson, Gracie Edwards.
Funeral proceedings held previously. James' final resting place is Hillside Cemetery, Oregan Road, Cortlandt Manor, NY.
