James Filingeri, 81, died on December 15, 2019 at Village Crest Nursing and Rehabilitation in New Milford, CT. He was a resident of Hopewell Junction, NY and Brookfield, CT, and formerly of Putnam Valley, NY.
Born in Brooklyn on July 14, 1938, he was the son of the late Joseph and Marie (Romano) Filingeri. He proudly served in the US Army. In 2003, James retired as administrator from the New York City Housing Authority where he worked for over 30 years.
On September 26, 1959 in Brooklyn, he married Maryann (Esposito) Filingeri who survives at home. He is also survived by his children, James Filingeri and his wife Lisa of Hopewell Junction, NY, Michael Filingeri and his wife Coleen of Hopewell Junction, NY; and Maria Miceli and her husband Rocco of Brookfield, CT; his daughter-in-law, Kim Filingeri; and his grandchildren, Joseph and Krista, Alyssa, Jessica, and Vincent, Kerri and James, and Jake and Gianna. In addition to his parents, James was also predeceased by his son, Joseph Filingeri in 2016.
James loved woodworking, and especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren grow up.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday at 4 – 8 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday at 11:30 am at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction, NY 12533 followed by burial at Rose Hills Memorial Park with military honors.
