James
Fuhrer
September 13, 1932 – November 29, 2025
James H. Fuhrer
Age 93 - Wappingers Falls, NY
James (Jim) Herbert Fuhrer, 93, passed away peacefully at home on November 29, 2025, surrounded by loving members of his family.
Jim was born September 13, 1932 in New York, NY to parents Herbert and Eleanor Fuhrer of Mount Vernon, NY. He grew up in New Rochelle, NY, attending New Rochelle high school. He excelled both as an athlete, competing in track and field, and as a scholar, earning admission to Princeton University's class of 1954. There, he enrolled in ROTC, rowed with the university's crew team, and sang with the University Glee Club. He graduated with a B.S. in electrical engineering.
Upon graduation in 1954, Jim married the love of his life, Diane Druding. He then accepted a commission in the US Navy on the U.S.S. Siboney. He served for two years as a lieutenant and communications officer on board the Siboney . Following military service, he obtained three masters degrees, and worked for forty years at Sperry Rand (later Unisys and Paramax). He began his career at Sperry designing microwave tubes, then contributed to and led the development of numerous navigation, missile defense, and software design systems.
Most of all, Jim loved his family and his many friends from church, choirs (notably the Eastchester Presbyterian Church choir, the Rye Presbyterian church choir, and the Greenwich Choral Society), and his Princeton class. He was a strong singer, an avid golfer, and an enthusiastic sailor. A graceful dancer, he and Diane often wowed onlookers when they took to the dance floor after a special dinner. He spent many summers visiting his beloved home at Lake George, playing golf and tennis, towing young water skiers, and enjoying good company and good food.
He is survived by his wife Diane, four sons, James Jr, Jeffrey, Valentin, and Robert, as well as six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Heifer International (donate here or at One World Avenue, Little Rock, AR 72202).
